Events held on the 1st July 2017 to mark 150 years of Canada becoming a new federation.


This year’s Canada Day marks the historic 150 year anniversary since the country became a federation in 1867 and is set to be the biggest celebration on record.

Not only is Canada set for a royal visit by Prince Charles and The Duchess of Cornwall to mark the occasion, there are also a plethora of events taking place June 30th-July 2nd around the Niagara Falls region to celebrate our most spectacular Birthday weekend.

It is set to be a busy weekend with events for all whether you enjoy live music, are a little more active or if you are bringing the family along and are looking for the little ones to be entertained too.

Here’s some of the main events happening over the special weekend to look forward to:

Friday June 30th 2017:

6pm – Niagara Students Rock Concert

Located at Niagara Falls City Hall, there will be a variety of food trucks and vendors to enjoy the music to and soak up the atmosphere in this warm up act to the rest of the weekend.

Saturday July 1st 2017:

Let the Birthday celebrations officially begin!

8am: 1K & 5K run for St John Ambulance

This event is being held at Oakes Park and you will need to fill out an entry form in advance which can be found on the race website. There will be prizes and medals for the different category winners.

9am – 10am: Citizenship Ceremony

Head to the Niagara Falls Public Library to welcome and celebrate our new Citizens of Canada on this historic day.

10am – 11am: Niagara Falls Concert Band Performance

Head outside the Niagara Falls Public Library for music and celebrations.

11am: Canada Day Parade

One of the highlights of the calendar! The parade begins at 11 am at Victoria Ave and travels through ending at Queen & St. Clair.

12pm – 4pm: Children’s Area with live entertainment

Queen & Erie will be providing a whole host of activities to keep the little ones entertained. There will be rock climbing, free inflatables, sandcastles, family mini-putt and much much more!

You can also enjoy free face painting and visits from Belle and Elsa.

12.30pm – 8pm: Opening Ceremonies

Starting with Canada’s official Birthday song (the national anthem of course!) you can enjoy a whole host of live entertainment right throughout the day.

As no Birthday would be complete without cake, Portage Bakery are giving out free Birthday Cake from noon onwards whilst supplies last.

1pm – 4pm: Car Show

Hosted by Cruising on the Q, this is your chance to view some awesome cars with awards for people’s choice and best in show! One not to be missed if you live for your four wheels and love the sound of a roaring engine.

Sunday July 2nd 2017:

12pm – 4pm: Live entertainment at Niagara Falls City Hall

Don’t let the party stop just yet! Enjoy the final day of celebrations with good food and music throughout the afternoon.
