“I aint afraid of no ghost!” – Oh really? Then come along and prove it at one of the spooktacular Fort George Ghost tours!

Established over 20 years ago, Fort George Ghost Tours are the original ghost walk experience for Niagara-on-the-Lake. They offer a variety of different candlelit tours around Fort George National Historic Site, including special private and Halloween Tours.

Costing $15 for adults and $7 for children, the tours last for 90 minutes and will guide you around one of the most haunted sites in the whole of Canada – Fort George. The tours are run by the Friends of Fort George, who are a non-profit organization who work with Parks Canada to encourage the preservation of Niagara’s National Historic Sites. The proceeds of the tours contribute towards supporting youth stewardship programs at both Fort George and Brock’s Monument.

Over the years Fort George Ghost Tours have grown in popularity as over 5,000 people a year come along to participate, many with their own spooky tales of the paranormal that they experience during the tour. It should be noted that this is not the kind of tour where actors portray ghosts to try and scare you… this is the real Mc Coy with real life experiences waiting for you to uncover!

The area where the tours take place in Fort George is steeped in history due to it being the location where in 1812 it served as the headquarters for the Centre Division of the British Army during the outbreak of war. This was followed by the 1813 American crossing of Lake Ontario, which successfully captured the town of Niagara and Fort George.

During the struggle to regain the territory which was eventually won by the British, the town of Niagara was ordered to be burned down by Brigadier-General George McClure of the New York militia. This left some 140 homes completely ruined and around 400 people displaced.

This is just part of over 200 years of history Fort George has under its belt with many paranormal tales of its past for visitors to discover. The tour will encompass all aspects of the fascinating history Fort George offers its visitors and gives a unique insight into the haunted buildings which still stand to this day.
